PROFAUNA INDONESIA
VOLUNTEERING PROGRAM
ProFauna
Indonesia
provides volunteering programs to allow
volunteers to make a significant
contribution, both physically and
financially, to aid wildlife conservation
program, whilst giving volunteers a unique
view of working in the organisation
protecting wild animals and the threatened
species, as well as giving a taste of
life, culture, and local region of the
people being helped.
ProFauna
Indonesia’s Volunteering Program aims
are:
1.
to raise funds for Indonesian wildlife conservation programs,
to improve animal protection, to increase
capacity on wild animal rescue, to aid
campaign against cruelty to animals, to
promote better animal welfare, to educate
the community on wildlife conservation
issues
2.
to allow the volunteers to work and help hands on, on the
project at the Wildlife education centre
and/or at the wildlife rescue centre.
3.
to give the volunteers the experience of living in a third
world country under local conditions
4.
to allow the volunteers to meet and integrate with the
indigenous population and experience their
culture
5.
to show the volunteers the conservation programs that
ProFauna Indonesia is involved in
6.
to show the volunteers the local area that the ProFauna
Indonesia is working in
7.
to provide some organised visits to local heritage and/or
cultural sites and/or areas of
conservation interest
Funding:
Thousands of volunteers each year fund
raise towards the cost of their expedition
(i.e. the return flights, insurance, visa
and the cost of your placement). You’d be
surprised that friends and family are
happier to help towards the relative
costs. However, there may be a
difference, which you need to make up.
The following are some ideas on in how to
fund raise:
§
Sponsorship:
You can write letters to companies or
individual to sponsor you, explaining the
purpose and the benefit of your trip
towards wildlife conservation.
§
Provide services such as:
working, car wash, cleaning, gardening,
weekend jobs, odd jobs, waitressing, bar
job, etc
§
Auction, car boot
sales,
§
Send appeal to your local media (newspapers, magazines or
radio)
§
Request for grants from charitable trusts
§

and charge your guests
Volunteers placements:
Volunteers are placed in Petungsewu camp,
10 km from Malang in East Java, located at
the foothill of
Kawi
Mountain, to work either:
§
at the educational centre at Petungsewu Wildlife Educational
Centre or P-WEC
(www.p-wec.com).
Where education, workshop and training are
run for the young generations and the
local community to increase their
awareness on wildlife conservation, animal
protection and animal welfare issues, or:
§
at the
PPS Petungsewu wildlife rescue centre,
where volunteers would help to care for
about 220 rescued wild species, from
parrots, cassowaries, peacocks, eagles to
apes. Wild species are given veterinary
treatment and rehabilitation program as a
preparation to return the animals to their
natural habitats in the forest.

trips or local school visits.

§

performing the tasks of care and feeding,
animal food preparation, cleaning cages
and enclosures.

The duration for volunteering is 30 days
(extendable). Any extension request is
subject to a consideration. Each
volunteer will get 1 day off in one week,
subject to the rota.
